Biotech Latam 2022

Top 10 Biotech Companies in Latin America - 2022

Top 10 Biotech Companies in Latin America - 2022

Latin America today poses myriad opportunities for industries across the biotech and pharma space. Many local and foreign biotech companies exhibit interest in penetrating the market to investigate, produce, and commercialize new biotechnology applications in agriculture, mining, biofuels, and healthcare. The sudden growth spurt is hugely influenced by the unparalleled growth of commercial biotechnology in the USA and Europe.

Added to the midst are countries like Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Mexico and others who have made significant strides in building their research and production capacity, in modern biotechnology, over the last few years. Cost efficiency and accessibility to broad patient populations are also driving the proliferation of the biotech industry in the Latin American region. With more patients per hospital site, easier patient follow-up, and less logistics travel, clinical trial sponsors achieve financial savings through faster patient enrollment. The aging population (projections show the 65-plus population will double in the next three decades) in this region has been crucial to the industry’s advancement as well.

Many Latin American countries are proactively taking steps to expedite licensing, registration, and commercialization processes and increase transparency and opportunity through the latest technologies. Even the European Union yearns to boost the production of vaccines, drugs, and therapies in Latin America by sharing technologies and regulatory practices and investing more in the region.

The growth of commercial biotechnology in Latin America also calls for better and improved public perception, financing mechanisms, regulatory framework and intellectual property protection, and workforce development. To address these changing needs, government agencies and related public institutions have to adjust their policies and operations.
